Hey there! It’s Larissa, and I’m thrilled to be part of the Ship It Days Committee this year!
The Female Force at Vio.com
Who run the world? Girls!
Women are a real force and we all know that. From mother, daughter or sister to engineer, mentor or CEO, a woman can be anything and everything she wants to be.
At FindHotel we also have a strong female force represented by 45 women. Every day besides our knowledge and passion for what we do, we also bring to work kindness and a lot of empathy.
That’s why we call ourselves the Female Force; we are a real force, we work hard, we lead on multiple areas of our lives, we continuously grow and we never stop to amaze.
This diverse and happy group of women at FindHotel is one-of-a-kind. We come from different backgrounds, we’re of different nationalities and we hold different roles in the team and the beauty lies exactly in this — being different from one another.
The Female Force currently constitutes 28% of the team and while this makes us happy we’re also on a quest to add more women and grow our group.
The women in the female force at FindHotel hold positions of Backend and Frontend engineer, Customer Support agent or lead, Finance controller, People Partner, Recruiter, Marketing analyst, Office manager, Partnerships manager, Product owner, Product analyst, Product designer, UX designer, UX researcher. Quite powerful, I’d say! Although there are no women in our leadership team, we strive to get onboard and grow strong female leaders.
We’re an international bunch!
Hola! Ciao! Salut! Not only is the entire team at FindHotel highly international but even the female group takes pride in gathering no less than 25 different nationalities, bringing together multiple languages and the beauty of our own culture.
In Amsterdam or anywhere in the world
We have been hiring quite a while now both remotely and in Amsterdam (where our HQ is) and we give freedom and flexibility to everyone to find their perfect balance to maintain the lifestyle they want. This is also valid for our female force. Currently, out of the 45 women at FindHotel, 67% are in the Netherlands and working in the office while 33% are working remotely from Brazil, Spain, The Philippines, Poland, Turkey, Romania, Serbia.
About being a woman
Being a woman has meant throughout the history having many challenges both in the personal life and in the professional one. Some of us are single, in a relationship, married and/or with children. We were curious to see how our ladies felt about being a woman at FindHotel and how they are balancing the private with the professional life, so we asked a few of our colleagues:
Sonam — As a working mom, it is very important for me to keep a balance between work and family. To achieve this I believe communication is the key. The important thing that I make sure is to communicate to my peers and managers what my needs are, as well as how I would like to continue to do my job well. Fortunately, my team and managers have the understanding and they appreciate the transparency and dedication to both my family and my job.
Elaine — The best part about being a woman and working at Vio.com is the other supportive women. There is no viewing other women as ‘’threats’’, everyone wants to see everyone else succeed, and is happy to help them get there. Also I have never felt underestimated due to my gender.
Dagmara — I don’t feel any fight for power here, women and men are given just as much space to shine, each in their natural, personal ways.
Mili — The best part about being a woman and working at FindHotel is that I “don’t feel it”, it’s 100% the same for men and women, so I don’t have to do any extra effort or feel less appreciated. We are all appreciated and celebrated the same no matter the gender, race, nationality, etc.
Soheyla — I have always been treated with kindness and respect by all colleagues. And the women at Vio are held to equal expectations as other gender identities. There is still no female member in the top leadership team, but I fully trust that will change in the future because the environment is right for it.
Working mothers
Our employees families have always been welcome at Vio.com. Father and mothers equally. We have created policies that would allow our team members to attend to their families and loved ones and be part of their lives at important times. When asked how do they balance motherhood and the job at Vio.com, some of our working mothers in the team replied:
Larissa — With flexible working hours, I am able to leave a bit early one day and extend a bit more another day for example. Also, Vio.com has a flexible work environment and I don’t feel pressured when I need to handle a personal life event and that’s just amazing.
Nam — Thanks to flexible working place, and quite flexible working hours or taking some holidays and also the culture of “responsible for the work we do”, I can use my time more wisely to balance both work and motherhood. I am totally trusted to do my work (I am never told I have to leave office at 11:00 pm), and I am thus producing good work results while I am able to attend my son’s first sport day at school by taking half day off. I really appreciate and respect how Vio.com puts these values first and keeps it in practice.
Uniting forces
We support each other in any way we can: from talking about make-up, self-development, nutrition, travel tips and tricks, languages, working out, cultural differences and similarities to recommending a baby stroller and giving work advice.
In the day to day, we communicate any time we see each other in the office or on slack, in our #femforce channel. We celebrate each other and although it can be quite challenging, we do try to spend time with each other, at least in smaller groups, and go out to dance or have dinner.
Our #femforce describes their journey at FindHotel as astonishing (Claire,) inspiring (Dagmara), great (Daniela), like a breath of fresh air (Elaine).
